About Earnest Bits LLC

Earnest Bits is an indie software development company. We make unique, high-quality software and sometimes charge money for it. We do not have investors. We just want to make a good software and live off the revenue.

Scribbo, like all our products, adheres to our software development philsophy, which is comprised of three parts:

  1. Make money by making good products, not by manipulating users
  2. Users own their data
  3. Privacy is a human right

These principles are embodied in a few specific design choices.

Offline-first All your data is stored on the devices you use scribbo with first, then synced to the cloud. You never rely on our cloud services to write, only when you need to sync data between devices.

Encrypted Your data is encrypted when it is sent to our servers, then decrypted by each device. We can’t read your writing and don’t want to.

Interopable Scribbo documents are not “trapped” inside Scribbo. You can export to many formats, including a raw “.scribbo” format you can write your own parser for (it’s a pretty simple JSON format). We don’t lock you in. We want users to stay because they like Scribbo, not because they can’t move their work elsewhere.
